where i spend my time

The place I spend most of my time is my room. This place is special to me because it was originally my sister's room prior to her going to a boarding school. As a kid, I had always been jealous of her room because it was so much bigger than mine.  In the summer of 2017, I painted it myself and redecorated everything. I love this room because it reflects how I feel and calms me down because of the cool colors of the walls and the warm colors of the lights.

my favorite places

This sunset picture is taken at my best friend's house. I took this picture on her front yard as I was arriving to her house on a pretty night. Her house is a favorite place of mine because we always have fun and I enjoy her company.

I took this stream picture during the summertime at Little Gunpowder Falls. I enjoy going there because it is a refreshing spot to relax and cool down with nature. I love the beautiful surroundings and calming atmosphere.

These Black-Eyed Susans were taken at this garden close to my house called Ladew Gardens. I enjoy this place because it is calming and always quiet, so I have time to think and enjoy life. Over the summer, I volunteered as a counselor for two weeks where I helped out with multiple groups of 5-6 year olds learn about nature.

This bike picture was taken at my favorite surf shop in Assateague island right outside of Ocean City. I love the old surf vibe of this area and they had the best food there. I decided to take this photo because the outside of the shop is one of my favorite colors and it really caught my eye.

This old car picture was taken when I was staying in California with my aunt. I was walking her dog and I decided to take this because the shadows looked interesting as they reflected against the car. I also enjoy this picture because the red color of the car stands out dramatically against the cool blues and greens of the background  This is my favorite place ever because I love the weather and the environment. This place makes me feel happiest!

charcoal pumpkin

Artist Statement
  • My goals and intentions for this artwork were to enhance the eclipses and shadows of the pumpkins.
  • I accomplished these goals by looking at the shadows and drawing what I see, rather than what I think.
  • I was most surprised by how similar my drawing looked to my picture and by how much different it was using charcoal compared to pencil or paint.
  • the most difficult challenge I had to face was using my right brain, instead of my left brain.
  • I met that challenge by focusing on just looking right at the pumpkin and not using my imagination.
  • I experienced this shift to the right brain when I stopped noticing things around me and only saw the pumpkins.
  • My drawing really works when I drew the stems because I showed the texture of them very well.
  • I learned from Sydney Walsh to make my pumpkins look less perfectly round which she did a great job fixing.
  • If I had a do-over, I would fix the shadows of the big pumpkin in the bottom right corner.
  • I feel like the best thing about my work is the highlights, shadows, and detail in the stems of the pumpkins.

selfie

Today we were told to draw a selfie that we took. I enjoyed this because it was a challenge and I had a lot of extra time today because I di...
